March 26th Gig Release

Dear :40 of Hell Rock Soldiers!

Looking for something to do on the first Monday night back from Spring Break?  Yes?  Well that's friggin' super, because :40 of Hell just happens to be looking for people who are looking for something to do on the first Monday night following Spring break.  Please join us on Monday March 26th at The Deli with a couple of special guests.

Kicking off the evening at a bit after 10pm will be the debut of The Anvil Salute. This is an experimental solo project by Gabe Wingfield of maritime fist glee club fame. (http://maritimefist.tripod.com/) I asked Gabe for a description of what he'll be doing, and he was kind enough to provide me with both a pretentious and a non-pretentious description, so here you go...

The Anvil Salute Pretentious:
"the anvil salute" is continually changing agglomeration of sound.  noise & music. exploration & experimentation.  often at the center of this miasma is gabe wingfield.  sometimes aided by other cohorts in sonic debauchery, sometimes not.  this time out (& the first time using this name) is tentatively set to beat the audience into submission or make them run screaming for the nearest jam band for the safe & mediocre. a treated banjo, 2 amps, a slew of effects, & a whole lotta puddin'.

The Anvil Salute Non-Pretentious:
basically, it's sound experimentation & exploration largely improvised by a guy who doesn't really know how to play or have any idea what in the hell he's doing. read: noisome happy accidents by a complete dumbfuck. if it doesn't sound like music, it's not supposed to.  if it doesn't sound good, at least you can get really drunk & laugh at the idiot on stage.

Second up - and fresh off of their I-35 run to Blue Fish VIII - will be Laces Loose, out of Lawrence, Kansas, performing an all original set of quirk punk.  I just made up "quirk punk", so don't blame them for a horrible labeling.

We'll finish the night out with a set of about five :40 of Hell originals and another 6 or 8 covers, some of which are kind of obscure... so if you don't recognize them, let's just say it was another original.  By the way, as an added bonus for this show we've decided not just to really rock... but to really fuckin' rock.  So you might want to wear your safety rock goggles.

Plenty of other shows coming up soon, including confirmed gigs with Kill-Basa, Klipspringer, and Dog Faced Boy. Tentative dates with Same Day Service and The Pistol Arrows are in the works for April and May.
